Save Space in your Home with Sliding Doors | Doorfit

Space.  It’s something we all crave, but it’s increasingly something, certainly in modern houses, that is at a premium.  Reportedly the UK has some of the smallest homes in Europe, and while minimum space standards are in place for social housing, London is the only place in the UK with minimum space regulations for private new build properties.

A lack of space is a common gripe among many homeowners and tenants, whether it’s a case of not being able to fit all your furniture in, having no storage space for items and appliances such as vacuum cleaners and ironing boards, or being unable to entertain guests.

It’s therefore of little surprise that inhabitants are coming up with innovative ways to make the most of the space they have.  Many smaller properties take inspiration from those in places such as New York and Japan, with studio apartments making the most of every square inch thanks to creative space-saving tricks such as pull-down beds, drop-leaf tables and multi-purpose surfaces.

But furniture isn’t the only thing to consider.  Doors, whether they’re used for privacy, access or to divide a room, often take up valuable space when swinging open on hinges.  And if space is already minimal, the last thing you want is a door that opens into the middle of your kitchen, obscures your view of the TV or means you have to squeeze around it to get into your bathroom!

So how can you get around this issue?  Well, a sliding door could be the ideal solution!  Not only do they provide you with a means to divide up your living space, they can also enable you to make the most of the light coming into your property and provide privacy.

There are a range of options available if you’re looking for an alternative to a swing hinged door, including bi-fold and sliding doors, and they’re available for use on items of furniture such as wardrobes and cupboards, as well as between rooms.

Installing such doors in your home can help you reclaim the space you may otherwise lose with a swing hinge door, enabling you to make the most of your property – and perhaps fit those items of furniture in that you would otherwise have to get rid of!

Of course, choosing the right bi-fold or sliding door can be tricky, so it’s important to get expert advice.  At Doorfit, our team have years of experience when it comes to supplying internal sliding doors for use on wardrobes, cupboards and between rooms, so have what it takes to help you choose the most suitable door for your needs.
